the minstrel and the storyteller

A Celebration of Jewish Oral Traditions

The Minstrel and the Storyteller is a delightful collaboration between Gerard Edery and Peninnah Schram which honors the rich and vibrant oral traditions of the Jewish people.

To hear all the fascinating Jewish stories and songs would take more than 1001 nights—and days. Stories have the power to transform and inspire. With our voices we can create bonds and lasting memories between people while we transmit Jewish values and traditions. Gerard Edery and Peninnah Schram combine their vibrant talents to bring you an intimate connection with the Ashkenazic and Sephardic oral traditions.

For the last 20 years Gerard and Peninnah have presented this entertaining, humorous and evocative program to enthusiastic audiences at Jewish Festivals, Synagogues, Jewish Community Centers, storytelling festivals and concert series worldwide. The stories and songs, drawn from Ashkenazic and Sephardic sources, feature kings, queens, sages, tricksters and prophets. Their subtle interplay of narrative and music elevates both art forms to new heights in this unforgettable performance.

This program can be tailored for audiences of all ages and is also available with guest musicians.
